Mindgrove Technologies, a semiconductor startup incubated at IIT-Madras, has developed a new microprocessor chip called Secure IoT. This chip targets electronics manufacturers in India and abroad, aiming to reduce their dependence on imported chips. Based on the RISC-V architecture, Secure IoT offers high performance at a competitive price.
Designed for deep embedded applications like smart devices and access control systems, Secure IoT marks a significant milestone as the first microprocessor chip designed, owned, and marketed entirely from India for the open market. It will soon power a range of smart electronic devices.
After receiving the first shipment of Secure IoT chips from Taiwan and completing basic testing, Mindgrove is ready to bring this made-in-India system-on-chip (SoC) to market. An SoC acts as the "brain" of a device, integrating the key components onto a single chip.
The founders of Mindgrove credit the IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies for guidance and plan to launch more cutting-edge products, inspiring India's emergence as a product development hub in the deep tech semiconductor space.
Once contracts are signed, clients will be able to use an Indian chip in their products instead of importing them from China or the Western world.
