“This Week in Plasma” Needs New Maintainers, Says Nate Graham

For eight years, Nate Graham has shared the latest KDE news through his blog series, "This Week in Plasma" (TWiP). This project started as a simple report to track usability and productivity goals. Since then, it has grown into a vital source of information for the entire community. However, Nate now needs a new volunteer or team to take over the blog starting in 2026.

Why the Change Is Happening

Life looks very different for Nate today than it did when he started in 2017. Recently, he took on the biggest career shift of his life. He is now the co-owner and CEO of Techpaladin Software, which is the successor to the Blue Systems consultancy.

Managing a company with over a dozen developers and complex business tasks takes a massive amount of time.

Also, Nate wants to prioritise his family. His children are now 9 and 13 years old. He feels they need their father to do more than just work constantly.

Because his schedule is so full, he noticed the quality of the blog posts began to slip over the last year. He wants to step back so he can balance his work and family responsibilities properly.

What the Role Involves

Running the blog is not overly difficult, but it requires a steady time commitment.

First, the volunteer must seek out and track relevant changes in KDE development. Then, they collect these changes into a list and write a short description for each one.

The role also involves taking screenshots to showcase new features and fixes. Finally, the volunteer must edit and polish the post for the readers.

Who Can Apply?

Nate is looking for the "next generation" of contributors to step up. Interestingly, you do not need high-level technical skills for this role. If you understand basic markdown and git, you are a perfect candidate.

Additionally, Nate has offered to teach, coach, and mentor anyone who wants to get involved. He wants to ensure the new person or team feels confident as they take over.

The Transition Plan

Nate will not stop writing immediately, but he will post less often in the coming months. You should expect a new update every two to four weeks, depending on his schedule. He hopes to find a successor who can return the blog to a weekly schedule by 2026.

If you want to help KDE stay strong and informed, please reach out to Nate. You can contact him via email at nate@kde.org or find him in the relevant Matrix rooms. This is a wonderful way to contribute to the community and make a real impact.
