Turtle 0.10 Released
Turtle, the handy Nautilus extension for managing Git repositories, has reached version 0.10. This release focuses on smoother credential management and improved file manager integration.
Here's the notable bug fixes and changes in version 0.10:
- SSH repository management is streamlined with default ssh-agent support, simplifying the use of different keys and passwords.
- HTTPS repositories can now be accessed using stored usernames and passwords via GNOME Keyring.
- A pesky bottleneck causing Nautilus freezes and crashes has been addressed. While a workaround is in place for emblem calculation, it ensures more stable operation, especially for those juggling numerous repositories.
- A dedicated Turtle emblem now graces the main repository folder, with options to toggle between status emblems or display both. This not only improves visual clarity for submodules but also boosts emblem calculation speed in folders teeming with repositories.
Parabolic Gets a New Beta Release
Parabolic, the go-to application for downloading web videos and audio, has undergone a major transformation with its latest beta release (V2024.9.0-beta1). Rewritten in C++, Parabolic promises a faster and more reliable downloading experience.
Here's what's new in the new beta version:
- The redesigned user interface offers a fresh look and improved usability.
- Performance gets a boost thanks to the C++ rewrite.
- Customization options are expanded, allowing users to control the download history length and fetch cookies directly from their preferred browser.
- Addressing previous shortcomings, the update resolves validation issues with certain websites, ensures video passwords are correctly utilized, and revamps the Keyring module (note that this requires reconfiguration).
GNOME Shell Extensions
GNOME Shell extensions also see their fair share of updates. Some of the notable changes are listed below:
- Weather O’Clock, the extension that keeps you informed about the weather information, has been ported to GNOME Shell 47. Users now have the flexibility to customize the display order of weather and clock information.
- Day Progress, the extension that provides a visual representation of your day's progression, now supports GNOME 47 and introduces an experimental circular indicator option. While still under development, this feature allows for a different way to visualise time remaining in your day.
Praise to the Translation Team
Lastly, let us not forget about the translation department. A big shout-out goes to the GNOME translation teams for their hard work. Their efforts in ensuring GNOME speaks a multitude of languages don't go unnoticed!
And, that's all for this week.
