Fedora 43 is a Go!

The team made the official "GO" decision during their Go/No-Go meeting on Thursday, October 23, 2025. This meeting was important because the team had previously said the F43 release was NO-GO on October 16, 2025.

Why did they need that extra time? Initially, the release candidate did not have enough test coverage, and several important bugs remained unsolved.

Fortunately, developers worked quickly. They reviewed a new version called Release Candidate (RC) 1.6. Because of this hard work, all major accepted bugs are now fixed in RC-1.6.

For example, testers found a bug where installing the KDE Live version with a French keyboard layout caused the system to show a US layout at the decryption screen. The team confirmed this was an accepted blocker, but they tested a fix in RC-1.6 and confirmed it should work well.

Furthermore, the meeting confirmed that the team had completed sufficient test coverage for F43 Final. Because Fedora CoreOS and Fedora IoT also confirmed their readiness, the path to release is now clear.

Should You Upgrade to Fedora 43 Immediately?

You might be excited to update right away. However, you should not feel pressured to update the moment the F43 lands.

First, know that Fedora 42 (F42) is still supported until May 13, 2026. You must upgrade before that date, but you have plenty of time.

Second, consider your experience level. If you are new to Linux, waiting a few weeks is often a smart move.

While Fedora tests extensively before release, new bugs sometimes appear for hardware the team couldn't test. When bugs do show up, developers usually fix them very quickly. Therefore, waiting a little bit means most major issues get ironed out before you try the update.

Finally, if you already run the Fedora 43 Beta version, you do not need to do anything special. You simply continue to use your system and apply updates as you have been. The Beta automatically becomes the final release.

Ultimately, updates generally run smoothly. You can easily upgrade from Fedora 42 to Fedora 43. But remember, you have until May 2026 before you absolutely must upgrade.

If you really feel it is time to upgrade to Fedora 43, simply follow the steps explained in the guide below!

Good luck!
