Cloudflare Offers $25K to Developers Building Git for AI Agents

Quick Summary

  • Cloudflare is running a competition asking developers to build the next Git platform designed for AI agents using Workers and Artifacts.
  • Entries need a 5–10 minute demo video, open-source code (MIT, Apache, or BSD), and setup instructions. Deadline is October 14, 2026.
  • Top three teams get flown to Cloudflare Connect in San Francisco. First place also wins $25,000 in Cloudflare credits and VIP dinner invites.

Introduction

GitHub works great when humans write code. You branch, commit, open a pull request, and someone reviews it. That flow has served us for years.

But AI agents are now writing a lot of code. And when you have hundreds or thousands of them touching the same project at the same time, GitHub starts to feel cramped.

AI Agents need to know what other agents are doing. They need to avoid stepping on each other. And someone needs to review all that output. So Cloudflare wants to reinvent Git for AI agents.

Cloudflare Already Built the Foundation

Earlier this year, Cloudflare launched a service called Artifacts. Think of it as a Git-compatible storage layer.

Artifacts can handle millions of repositories. You can create and copy repos through code, not just by clicking buttons. Agents can push and pull code like they normally would.

Now Artifacts is in open beta, and Cloudflare added some useful pieces:

  • Connect a repo to a Cloudflare Worker. When code gets pushed, it builds and deploys automatically.
  • Let a Worker manage repos directly. It can fork a project for each agent, read the files the agent needs, and hand over a Git token.
  • Subscribe to events. When someone pushes code, you can trigger a review, run tests, or start a deployment.
  • Pick where your data lives - US or EU.
  • See usage metrics per repo.
  • Pay based on operations and storage. Billing starts October 15, 2026.

Cloudflare Now Launches Competition to Build the Next Git Platform

Cloudflare says the foundation is ready. The next layer is up to you: how agents coordinate, how changes get reviewed and merged, and what the developer experience looks like when many agents work in parallel.

So they're running a competition to build the next Git platform for AI agents on Cloudflare using Workers and Artifacts.

They don't want GitHub with AI bolted on. They want something designed from scratch for agents. At minimum, your project should show multiple agents working on changes at the same time.

How to Enroll into the Competition

Submit a 5–10 minute video, your source code under a permissive license (MIT, Apache, BSD), and instructions to run it. Deadline is October 14, 2026.

Top three teams get flown to San Francisco for Cloudflare Connect. First place also gets $25,000 in Cloudflare credits and invites to a VIP dinner.

Cloudflare Git Platform: 5 Things to Know

  • Cloudflare is not building another GitHub. It is providing the infrastructure needed to build a new kind of Git platform.
  • The key piece is Artifacts. It lets applications create, copy, modify, and manage Git repositories through code.
  • The target is AI coding agents. Multiple agents can work on separate copies of a project, try different solutions, and produce changes independently.
  • Cloudflare provides the rest of the infrastructure. Workers can run the agents, Queues and Workflows can coordinate them, and Cloudflare's build and deployment tools can ship the results.
  • The bigger idea: Git was designed mainly around humans writing code. Cloudflare wants developers to rethink Git for a world where AI agents can create and test many changes automatically.

Conclusion

Cloudflare built the plumbing for agent-scale Git. Now they're asking developers to build the coordination layer on top. If you've ever thought GitHub could work differently when machines, not humans, do most of the committing — this is your chance to prove it.
